The Nokia 2228 is an entry level camera phone initially designed for Indonesia and China. Projected sales for the 2228 were eight hundred thousand units. Pip Tompkin recognized a trend in Asia to customize phones by hanging charms from the small lanyard feature, common on these devices. An entire industry was developing around this trend creating thousands of different types of charms. Pip Tompkin, looking to expand the Nokia 2228′s market share design a phone from the charm up. The result is a large hole with the ability to hang more charms than any other phone. This feature was so successful that in three years, more than twenty eight million Nokia 2228s were sold.
